Natasha Khan Kazi is an author and illustrator whose work has earned national recognition, including selections as an SLJ Best Picture Book, a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, a Chicago Public Library Best Picture Book, and a Bank Street Best Children’s Book of the Year.
Born in Dhaka, Bangladesh and raised across Chittagong, Texas, Pennsylvania, and Virginia before settling in Southern California, Natasha draws on a lifetime of navigating identity across cultures, languages, and communities. She is a 2021–2023 Highlights Foundation Muslim Storyteller Fellow.
Today, Natasha brings that same lens on identity, creativity, and belonging to corporate and nonprofit audiences — sharing what she’s learned about representation, authentic storytelling, and building a creative life on your own terms. She is based in Los Angeles, CA.

We Are All Creators
Drawing on creative-recovery principles popularized by Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way, daily practice over waiting for inspiration, treating blocks as emotional rather than technical, creativity as a spiritual and communal act, Natasha shares how she applied these tools to reconnect with her creative flow and build a career and life around her own creative voice. A talk for anyone who’s ever thought, “I’m not the creative type.”
Give Yourself Permission
Natasha didn’t wait for permission to write the stories she couldn’t find as a kid, or to build a career no one handed her a blueprint for, she gave herself that permission instead. In this talk, she shares the permissions she’s granted herself again and again: to take risks, to learn something new, to fail publicly, to put her own voice first when it would’ve been easier to stay quiet. Attendees leave with a framework for identifying the permission they’ve been waiting for, and how to give it to themselves instead.
