Before I made picture books, my first job was at a global NGO working toward the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals. Those years changed me. They taught me to look at the world not just as it is, but as it could be. I believe every child deserves safety, dignity, and joy, and that the systems keeping those simple truths out of reach are worth understanding and changing.

This page is my way of connecting those parts of my life: the humanitarian work that inspires me and the storytelling work I do now. If you’re looking for ways to learn more, give back, or support global change, here are a few organizations I’ve work with.

This page is currently a ‘work in progress’.

Transformational Social Change

These organizations identify, fund, and support social innovators and their initiatives to drive transformational social change.

Emergency Aid

These organizations provide humanitarian aid in areas affected by crises. This includes crises in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, Ukraine, and Bangladesh (Rohingya) among many others.

Charity Navigator is a wonderful database to learn more about the transparency and impact of nonprofits.

NGOs in Bangladesh

My Bangladeshi roots fuel my dedication to NGOs that create real opportunity for people in the communities that shaped my earliest understanding of resilience.

BRAC

Through Ashoka, I had the pleasure of working with the late Dr. Fazle Abed and BRAC.

Their success proved that solutions born in Bangladesh can uplift communities around the world. I carry the lessons of their innovation into every project I take on today.

Grameen Foundation

Through Ashoka, I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Muhammad Yunus and the Grameen Foundation.

Grameen’s model of microfinance and community-led innovation opened my eyes to how small, well-placed resources can transform a family’s future. Their work taught me that sustainable change grows from trusting people—especially women—to lead their own solutions.
